A former Columbia resident who worked as the head of the Colorado prison system is dead after being shot at his home.
Tom Clements worked in the Missouri Department of Corrections for over 30 years before heading to Colorado in 2011. On Tuesday night, a gunman went to Clements’ home near Colorado Springs and shot him when he answered the door. Governor Nixon issued a statement Wednesday calling the death a “heartbreaking tragedy.”
Officials in Colorado are still looking for the gunman, and aren’t ruling out that the shooting may have been related to Clements’ job. He is survived by his wife and two grown daughters.
