The city of Columbia’s finance director admits officials are a little concerned that American Airlines has gone down from 50-seat to 44-seat jets at Columbia Regional Airport for the past week or so. John Blattel says each flight still must have an average of roughly 32 passengers during a month, or the city has to pay American out of a revenue guarantee fund. Jefferson City has contributed $100,000 to the fund, while Columbia and Mizzou are footing most of the bill.
The city has already paid American Airlines more than $22,000, when it failed to meet the required revenues in a month at Columbia Regional. Blattel says he still expects to meet the passenger goal, after the first few months of service.
