A local tax official has pleaded guilty for her role in approving more than 150-thousand dollars of fraudulent tax refunds from January 2009 through last September.
Rosellyn Otto, of Meta, pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court to mail fraud. Her plea comes after James Bruhn, a Springfield businessman, also pleaded guilty last month to mail fraud.
Otto worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue. The U.S. Attorney’s office says Bruhn submitted fraudulent claims for motor fuel tax refunds, and Otto approved the refunds. The two then split the proceeds. Prosecutors said Otto also received some money in a separate but similar scheme.
