The Missouri Senate may take away funding for one department, and give it to others. While the Revenue Department’s budget was cut after they gave a CCW permit list to the feds, the Senate now passes a budget bill to give $2 million to local sheriffs so they can take over issuing concealed weapon IDs.
Sheriffs already receive applications, do background checks and issue conceal weapon permits. Currently, the recipients then take that paper permit to the Revenue Department to get a photo ID noting their conceal carry endorsement. The state sheriffs’ association has volunteered to take over issuing the photo ID.
