Deadly Crash on Highway 50

A Versailles man is dead and a Westphalia man has serious injuries after a crash involving two trucks in Jefferson City.

A dump truck driven by 37-year-old Stephen Berhorst crossed the center line and hit a semi carrying a load of animal feed Thursday afternoon. The truck carrying the feed then ran off eastbound Highway 50 near the Highway Patrol General Headquarters.

The big rig went down a steep embankment and overturned. The driver, 51-year-old Alan Spaulding died. The dump truck ended up in the backyard of a home along the highway. Berhorst was seriously injured. Traffic was down to one lane for hours.
