The state has gotten a little help from Washington, to make you safer on that tricky Highway 54 curve in Jefferson City. Missouri has received a federal grant for a new road treatment that may keep your car from slipping off highways when it rains or snows.
Engineer Travis Koestner with MoDOT says workers will apply the “high friction surface treatment” to a pair of curves on Highways 54 and 179.
“It has a higher roughness than what normal pavement would be,” Koestner says, “and it’s for areas that can benefit from having a little bit of rougher surface for circumstances such as wet weather.”
Missouri received $150,000 for the project from the Federal Highway Administration. Koestner says MoDOT will probably put the treatment down sometime in the fall.
