Jefferson City Budget Staying Tight

Posted by Warren Krech on June 11, 2013

A tight state budget means a tighter Jefferson City budget. City Administrator Nathan Nickolaus says he doesn’t expect any revenue growth next year, because state belt-tightening has a big effect in local stores.

“We are, after all, a company town. And the state has had a lot of job losses, and the state employees haven’t had a real raise in several years,” Nickolaus says.

State employees are looking at a $500 raise next year, which will be eaten up by health insurance costs. Jefferson City leaders are projecting flat growth in 2014, with several key jobs left unfilled.
