Luetkemeyer Wants More from IRS
Should more heads roll at the Internal Revenue Service? Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer says targeting of conservative groups by the IRS is just the tip of the iceberg.
“They’re wasting money on all these crazy conventions. Sounds like a party to me, but they call it some sort of team building. It just shows the lack of responsibility and quality management on the part of the people who are in charge of that bureaucracy,” Luetkemeyer says.
He says he’s seen the political favoritism first hand, saying he was stonewalled three years ago when he called for the IRS to investigate political activities by the Humane Society.
According to the Associated Press, experts say the Internal Revenue Service’s improper treatment of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status stems partly from conflicting laws that vaguely describe the activities that such organizations may conduct, though no one is defending the heavy-handed way the IRS forced conservative groups to submit reams of material on their affairs.
