A Miller County judge tells law enforcement officers not to interrogate a man charged with killing a 13-year-old girl unless his attorney is present.
Steven Henderson is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the June 22 death of Macala Shelton, who was his brother’s stepdaughter. She was found stabbed to death at an unoccupied farm in Iberia.
The AP reports Henderson’s attorney tried to visit him in jail in late June, but was told he couldn’t because law officers were questioning him. That prompted the lawyer to ask for an order protecting Henderson from those officers. The judge denied that request, but also issued the warning to anyone wanting to question the murder suspect.
