Still Stiff Penalties for Underage Gambling
Underage gambling is one of the most common laws broken in Missouri casinos, and it’s usually because the players got in with a fake ID. But Ed Gewach, Chief Counsel for the Missouri Gaming Commission, says many times the person doesn’t realize the consequences of getting caught.
“If a minor came to the turnstile with a fake ID and it was determined to be fake, there [is] an agent on the boat,” Gewach says. “A Highway Patrolman on the boat would be notified and he would come and… arrest that minor.”
Governor Nixon recently vetoed a law that would have lessened the penalty for underage gamblers. The measure would have done away with up to six months of jail time, but kept a $500 fine in place.
