Will a new Jefferson City Conference Center require a subsidy from the city? Fifth Ward Councilman Ralph Bray says they’re approaching the deal carefully.
“We’ve told them up front that this is the project, $9 million for the conference center,” Bray says. “Whether or not it gets to the point of requiring a subsidy, we don’t know that for sure. We’re trying to take our time and do things very methodically so that we know what we’re getting into.”
Funding will come from a voter-approved lodging tax. Two groups are bidding for the project – The Erhardt group from Hannibal, and Farmer Holdings of Jefferson City.
