A security oversight puts members of Missouri Credit Union on alert.
The credit union is telling customers their personal info was put on the internet for all to see. MCU says a file full of names, social security numbers, account numbers and passwords was accidentally posted on its website. The credit union says there were ten visits to the file’s location before the mistake was found on August 5th. Members are learning about the mistake in letters mailed this week.
President Hal James apologized in a statement, and says the credit union is working to make sure a similar breach won’t happen again. All of the credit union’s customers are able to enroll with a credit monitoring service for a year of free protection.
