By all appearances, Graysie Strong is a typical child.
“I go to school at Lawson Elementary, and I’m in 4th grade. I like science and recess,” she says.
But, there was nothing typical about her start in life. Graysie underwent a lifesaving heart operation when she was just three days old. Rossleen Strong is Graysie’s mother.
“When she was born she had transposition. That’s where the arteries of the heart did not develop properly, and she underwent surgery when she was three days old,” says Rossleen.
Graysie will be the star of this year’s Heartwalk Saturday morning at Memorial Park in Jefferson City. Organizers are expecting over 700 walkers. The annual event is a major fundraiser for the Heart Association.
