A welcome quiet in Columbia this month is shattered by gun shots.
Several calls came in about the shootings at Douglass park a little after 6:00pm Wednesday night. When officers got there, they couldn’t find anyone involved.
“There was an officer working off duty at Douglass High School, who saw some people leaving the park, and he guided officers to them… Really we got no cooperation or witness accounts at the park,” says Sgt. Joe Bernhard with the Columbia Police Department.
No injuries have been reported, but investigators did find some shell casings in the park. The Park was closed early last night because of other shouting matches that were keeping police from investigating the shooting. The park opened as normal Thursday morning.
This is the first shots fired call in Columbia since the gun play downtown near Harpo’s on July 27th.
