(AP) A judge accepts a not guilty plea in Columbia’s VA Hospital murder, but the suspect won’t be going home.
33-year-old Rudy Perez, Jr. of Sedalia will instead spend time at the state mental hospital in Fulton. The prosecutor dropped the murder charge Monday, in the February 1st beating death of Warsaw resident Robert Hill.
The plea means Perez will avoid a trial that was set to start next month. The decision comes after a second doctor diagnosed Perez with schizophrenia. He apparently has a history of mental illness.
