Schaefer to Run for Attorney General
A Mid-Missouri state senator wants to be your next Attorney General.
19th District Republican Kurt Schaefer serves Boone and Cooper Counties, and confirmed his candidacy Wednesday with a post on his Facebook page.
Schaefer says, “Today is day one of a very long road, but I am blessed to have the love and support of so many. I look forward to the effort of becoming the People’s Attorney.” The next election for the state’s top prosecutor will be in 2016.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports Schaefer added $500,000 to his campaign treasury in July from a family trust. Potential GOP challengers Senator Eric Schmitt and House Speaker Tim Jones haven’t formally announced a run yet, but might do so soon.
Schaefer is serving his second term as a state senator, and can’t run for that office again due to term limits.
