Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich says authorities are investigating missing funds in the Callaway County Circuit Court.
Schweich released a report Wednesday on the clerk’s office in Fulton. The circuit also includes Boone County, but the courthouse in Columbia is not being investigated.
The audit cites more than $11,000 in “problematic” transactions and at least $355 in missing funds. It gave the office a rating of “poor,” and will follow up on the audit in the future.
Schweich’s report says the clerk in charge of the affected accounts was fired last fall, and says a special prosecutor has been appointed in the case.
The current circuit clerk says she’s working to implement the recommendations in the audit.
