Just because the county prosecutor dropped charges, doesn’t mean the Brandon Coleman murder investigation is over. Now the FBI is checking out the Columbia case, at the request of Coleman’s mother.
Boone County Prosecutor Dan Knight dropped charges against Dustin Deacon in the May murder, saying Deacon was trying to protect his father. That would be justified under the state’s self-defense laws. However, Coleman’s mother claims the decision was racially motivated.
A Justice Department spokesman says the separate FBI investigation does not necessarily mean the prosecutor was wrong.
