Mizzou football has a bye, but it’s still the biggest weekend of the year for a lot of sportsmen. Firearms deer season starts Saturday, and continues through the 26th.
Tom Strother with the Missouri Department of Conservation says more than a half-million hunters hit the fields last year, with the number of women and children on the rise.
“When it comes to shooting sports, guy or gal, kid or an adult, everyone can enjoy that sport and be successful at it,” Strother says. “And it’s just a good family experience, just being out there shooting and having a good time.”
Missouri hunters took more than 311,000 deer from all seasons in 2012.
