The time to worry about drunk driving is when you’re still sober. Jefferson City Prosecutor Brian Stumpe says he’s seen too many people regret having that one for the road.
“It’s a criminal act. There’s a ton of DUI’s. There’s about 30,000 people injured every year from a DWI in the United States, so it’s a big deal,” Stumpe says.
Jefferson City is one of many Missouri towns that offer sober driver programs on New Year’s Eve. Stumpe says the cops won’t give you a break if you have a .08 or higher BAC.
“You gotta post bond. You’re treated like a criminal,” Stumpe says.
Stumpe adds the new DUI offender program is working well for Jefferson City.
