Nixon Proposes Bond Deal for Fulton State Hospital
The state has to have it, and now the governor proposes a bond issue to pay for it.
Governor Jay Nixon visited the Fulton State Hospital Monday to announce the next step towards improvements for the facility. Fulton State Hospital treats people found not guilty of crimes by reason of mental disease.
Officials say a new facility will cost $211 million, and the governor says he’ll put the bond issue to fund it in his next budget. Nixon previously withheld some money for the design of a hospital building, but says he will now release $11 million to finish that part of the project.
The Fulton State Hospital admitted its first patients in 1851.
