Deputies Find Wanted Man After Cole Co. Crash

A serial hit-and-run suspect is behind bars after a Cole County crash.

Fire crews responded first to the one-car accident at Highway 179 and Hilsenbeck Road Monday afternoon. As they arrived, they saw a man run from the scene into the woods. After running the car’s license plates, deputies learned it was suspected in a Cooper County hit-and-run. They also found out the runaway was Jasper Richmond, who was wanted on Camden County warrants.

Captain John Wheeler says an initial search came up empty, but Richmond was spotted in the area at about 4:00 Tuesday morning.

“There was a subject trying to wave vehicles down,” Wheeler says. “By the time deputies got to the scene, he had just been picked up in a black Grand Am. JCPD and us started looking for that vehicle, and we actually located it at Edgewood, near Frog Hollow [in Jefferson City].”

Wheeler says authorities arrested Richmond at that stop without problems. He’s being held without bond on the Camden County charges, and could face an extra count for running from the Cole County accident.
