Governor Not Behind New State Building

Posted by Warren Krech on May 13, 2013

Jay Nixon calls it a “brand new building for bureaucrats,” and he doesn’t support the money pegged for it.

Missouri lawmakers have approved a spending plan for capital improvements. It includes $38 million for planning, design, and construction of a state office building.

Supporters say the building could house offices for various state agencies, including the Transportation Department. It could be constructed on the site of the former Missouri State Prison about a mile from the state Capitol.

Governor Nixon says he did not ask for the funding. He also doesn’t agree with money going to this, while he has to choose between programs to support developmentally disabled children or low-income seniors.
