Historic Landmarks…Or Ugly Pigs?

“We have, I think, one of the most beautiful courthouses in the state.  These are ugly pigs attached to it”.  That’s how Cole County Presiding Commissioner Marc Ellinger describes the old Cole County Jail and Sheriff’s residence. Commissioners will decide on the fate of those buildings on April 16th.  While historic preservationists are fighting to rennovate the structures to accomodate more court space, Ellinger and others want to tear them down and build a new facility.  Here’s our conversation on KWOS Open Air:
