Illegal Caviar Ring Busted in Mid-MO

Posted by Warren Krech on March 15, 2013

Caviar can fetch big bucks, and eight people were allegedly trying to cash in illegally in Mid-Missouri. The Justice Department is charging Bodgan Nahapetyan of Lake Ozark and seven others for violating the federal Lacey Act.

The eight suspects are accused of trying to sell paddlefish eggs for caviar after catching the fish on the Osage River near Warsaw.  This practice is illegal in Missouri, and the eggs of a pregnant paddlefish can fetch up to $4,000 on the black market. The feds step in when those eggs cross state lines.
