A nifty nose works twice to nab a suspect in Jefferson City.
Police Captain Doug Shoemaker says 46-year-old Kevin Hiatte ran from the city’s east side Wal-Mart Tuesday after employees suspected he was shoplifting. An officer and K9 unit responded to try and find the suspect.
The police dog quickly tracked Hiatte to his hiding place in the woods, and Shoemaker says he surrendered peacefully. A short time later, the officer found Hiatte’s car, and the K9 sniffed out potential drugs. Police found four grams of meth, other pills, and drug paraphernalia inside.
Hiatte is now in custody, and could soon face shoplifting and drug charges.
