JC “Theft” Leads to Unexpected Arrest
A $100,000 theft in Jefferson City ends with an arrest, but not the one you think.
Police responded to a downtown parking lot near High Street at about 8:30 Tuesday morning for a robbery in progress. When they got there, 31-year-old Sara Hlavacek of Jefferson City told officers a man with a gun had robbed her of $100,000 in cash.
Hlavacek said she had all that money to pay restitution at the county court across the street. There was one small problem… investigators determined she made the whole story up. Officers arrested Hlavacek for filing a false police report, and took her to the Cole County Jail, pending formal charges.
