Liquor Law Challenge Fails in Court

Local liquor distributors are breathing a sigh of relief, after a federal appeals court throws out a challenge to Missouri’s method of distributing alcohol.

The St. Louis-based court denied the challenge from a wholesaler in Florida. Right now, producers work with a distributor to get their alcohol onto store shelves, and the middlemen must have a Missouri address. The company wanted the court to allow out-of state distributors to sell liquor to retailers.

Alcohol companies failed to convince Missouri lawmakers to change the system with a big-money lobbying push in this year’s legislative session.
