A former employee at a Jefferson City bank is sentenced for embezzling more than $540,000 from the bank and another business.

52-year-old Kelley Steiner of Jefferson City will spend one year and one day in federal prison without parole. Federal prosecutors say Steiner worked as the personal assistant of former Jefferson Bank president Harold Westhues from 1999 to 2008. She admitted to taking money from the bank, Westhues’ personal checking account, and a previous company she worked for. Steiner apparently used the money to pay credit card bills, college expenses for her kids, and more.

Under the terms of her sentence Thursday, Steiner will have to pay nearly $665,000 in restitution.
