They’re making a map, and checking it twice. Cole County leaders have formed a rough draft of a new zoning map. Commissioner Kris Scheperle says it’s the first step in a long process.
“Zoning’s going to be a hot topic, and we’ll be looking to put that out to the public, hopefully at the end of the year or the first part of 2014,” Scheperle says. “We’ll be looking for public comment so that we put the best document out there possible.”
Scheperle says the goal is to promote business while protecting property rights. Most of the county outside of Jefferson City is now zoned for agriculture. Any changes will be put to a vote next year.
