Nixon Tabs New Medicaid Director

Posted by Warren Krech on November 25, 2013

As Missouri lawmakers debate Medicaid reform, Governor Jay Nixon names a new Medicaid director.

Nixon tabbed Dr. Joe Parks Friday to lead the MO HealthNet program. He replaces Ian McCaslin, who left the job in May after a nearly six-year stint. Parks will leave his position at the top medical officer for the Department of Mental Health to take on the new role.

MO HealthNet provides health coverage to about 850-thousand lower-income Missourians. The Governor wants to extend Missouri’s Medicaid program to more people in need, but Republican lawmakers say they want to reform it before expanding eligibility.
