You won’t see a liquor store near Dix and Main in Jefferson City anytime soon. The proposal was turned down by the Board of Adjustment after neighbors complained, despite the fact that the Break Time across the street sells liquor.
Third Ward Councilman Bob Scrivner says only five percent of Breaktime’s business is alcohol, and he agrees that the public should have a say in the matter.
“If parents want to take this stand,” Scrivner says, “if the people in that community and that neighborhood feel like it’s not appropriate for their neighborhood, then I applaud them for standing up and saying something.”
Another liquor store application on Ellis Boulevard was approved.
