Overnight Shooting in Auxvasse

Callaway County deputies say they found 28-year-old Benjamin Harris of Auxvasse dead at the scene on South Main Street just before 1:00 am. State troopers and deputies interviewed witnesses and the shooter, who was released after some questioning. They say the shooter and Harris knew each other, and they were in a verbal argument at a nearby bar before things escalated.

The Sheriff’s Office says it’s investigating whether the killing was justified by self-defense. Deputies plan on issuing a full report to the county prosecutor, who will ultimately decide to file charges. Authorities aren’t releasing the shooter’s name unless charges are filed.
