It didn’t look as serious at first, but it turns out Columbia State Representative Chris Kelly did suffer a heart attack Tuesday.
Kelly was taken to Capitol Region Medical Center after complaining of chest pains. An initial EKG showed no heart attack, but legislative assistant Donna Schuelen says further testing reversed the early diagnosis. He was then transported to University Hospital in Columbia to be closer to his own doctors.
Schuelen says Kelly suffered from two blocked arteries, and a procedure at about 9:00 Wednesday morning to place two stents in the arteries went well. There’s no word yet on when Representative Kelly will be able to leave the hospital, or if he’ll get back to work before the end of the legislative session this month.
