Scanning Stops at Revenue Dept.
It seems the Department of Revenue has finally gotten the message when it comes to scanning personal documents at license offices.
House Speaker Tim Jones says the department told those offices Monday to stop scanning papers during the driver’s license process. Lawmakers are questioning whether the practice violates a state law that bans compliance with the federal Real ID Act.
In a statement, Jones says it’s a good first step to fix privacy risks associated with the scanning. He says there’s still work to be done when it comes to finding out who authorized the scans, and holding them accountable.
