Senate Says Yes to Sales Tax

Lawmakers want to raise the Missouri sales tax, but you get to vote on whether that will happen.  The Senate advanced a proposed one-cent sales tax increase to fund transportation projects on Wednesday.

The increased tax is expected to generate nearly $8 billion over a decade, with 10 percent going to local transportation needs. If the sales tax goes into effect, Missouri’s gas tax would not go up and existing roads can not be made into toll roads.
