Some MO Businesses Happy about Boeing Proposal

(MissouriNet) – As you might expect, a parts supplier is pretty happy the state is trying to bring Boeing’s new production facility to Missouri. St. Charles supplier Judy Burns has 135 employees making and assembling complex parts. She’s worried about the future.

“About 75% of our work is defense, but now the C-17 is winding down, and defense budgets are very tight. Time is of the essence that Missouri should bring, and facilitate, opportunities for commercial work in Missouri,” says Burns.

Kirkwood state senator Eric Schmitt says a new airplane plant in the Saint Louis area would benefit Mid-Missouri, and the rest of the region. He says the Boeing plant could deliver tens of thousands of indirect jobs.

State lawmakers last week approved up to $1.7 billion in incentives for Boeing. More than a dozen states are competing for the new 777x facility. We should know Boeing’s decision sometime next month.
