Tear It Down? Or Let It Stand?

The ‘old’ Cole County Jail will stand .. for now. County Commissioners have delayed a decision on the future of the building after a plea from historic preservationists. County leaders would like to tear down the old structure adjacent to the courthouse and build a new office and courtroom complex. They claim remodeling would cost much more than putting up a new structure. A remodeled building could cost 4 – million dollars .. while starting from scratch would be about one and a half – million. Commissioners say they’ll make a final decision next month.
