There’s been a setback for one of the Highway Patrol’s annual goals. After record low traffic death tolls in 2011, deaths on Missouri highways rose in 2012. The Missouri Coalition for Highway Safety wanted to see fewer than 800 people killed on the roads by the end of 2012, and reached that goal in 2011. But as of Monday morning, 814 people had been killed in traffic crashes in 2012. The Patrol says driver inattention and not wearing seatbelts led to most of the deaths.
