Travel Site Customers Entitled to Refunds

If you made travel plans through a popular website, you might be entitled to a refund.

On Monday, the state Department of Insurance announced that Missouri consumers who bought travel insurance policies on Travelocity and related sites may get part of a $2 million settlement. From June of 2009 to January of last year, the pages forced consumers to opt-out of buying insurance from a Pittsburgh-based company at checkout. That means unless a buyer noticed the check box for the plans, they were charged up to 45 dollars extra per person for insurance coverage when they booked travel arrangements.

The department says the insurance company will email Missourians who may be eligible for the refund on about 70-thousand insurance plans. The company also promises not to sell its policies on an opt-out basis again.
