Windfall Coming for Parts of Mid-MO

An increase in state revenue means a cash windfall for Jefferson City and central Missouri. Following better-than-expected income numbers, Governor Jay Nixon has requested a supplemental budget for state buildings and parks.

Jefferson City representative Jay Barnes says that package includes $38 million for a new building at the old Missouri State Prison site. He hopes the building helps drive more people to the area during the day.

The deal also includes $50 million to fix up the Capitol Building, and $13 million to start the planning for a new Fulton State Hospital. The $120 million funding proposal is expected to get final approval this week.
