The watchdog website Politifact called it the “lie of the year:” President Obama’s claim that if you liked your health care plan, you could keep it under new federal laws.
Millions of people ended up with cancellation notices instead. Senator Claire McCaskill says the chief executive goofed up.
“Obviously it was a big mistake; what he said and how he said it. I think that he has acknowledged that, and what we’re trying to do now is fix it,” says McCaskill.
McCaskill added many people who lost their insurance were on bare-bones plans that didn’t meet new federal standards. The feds have since acted to let people keep those plans another year, if their insurance companies agree to offer them.
