The Jefferson City Council cuts the 2014 budget. The city was facing a $1.7 million shortfall for the next fiscal year. Both the Jefferson City Police and Fire Departments will lose funds, largely due to overtime cuts.
The street department’s budget will be about a half-million dollars lighter, thanks to a cutback in salt, chemicals, and street repair materials like asphalt. Potential cuts could also roll back hours for the Jefferson City bus system. The city will also save nearly $200,000 by not filling some vacant jobs at City Hall.
The money for public-access JCTV was left in the budget on a split vote.
