The Department of Revenue is getting rid of a database that has generated controversy for months, and may have caused its director to resign.
Governor Jay Nixon says Tuesday his administration will stop making electronic copies of people’s concealed gun permits.
Nixon announced the policy reversal after several weeks of criticism from Republicans, who said the new document copying policy of the Department of Revenue was an invasion of privacy. Director Brian Long resigned Monday.
The Department of Revenue handles concealed carry permits because it is responsible for issuing photo identification cards or placing a concealed weapons endorsement on people’s driver’s licenses.
