Missouri’s former director of unemployment benefits claims she was discriminated against when she was fired.
Governor Jay Nixon’s administration replaced Gracia Backer in March as director of the Division of Employment Security. She was out at the same time her boss, labor department director Larry Rebman, was assigned to a different state job.
Newly released documents show Backer has filed a discrimination complaint with the Missouri Commission on Human Rights. She says she was fired after claiming Rebman was discriminating against her and other older and female employees. Rebman denies he discriminated against anyone he worked with.
The governor’s office never announced why Backer was let go.
