She admitted to a brutal murder in court, and now wants to take it all back.
Alyssa Bustamante, 19, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the October 2009 killing of nine-year-old Elizabeth Olten in St. Martins. Prosecutors say she stabbed her young neighbor and left her in a grave under a leaf pile just to see what it felt like.
Now, Bustamante’s attorney claims her guilty pleas should be set aside due to ineffective public defenders, due process violations, and even cruel and unusual punishment. She’s serving a life sentence with the chance for parole, plus 30 years for the murder.
A judge is set to hear the new complaints on Friday.
