How did a Cole County Jail inmate shoot himself?

It now turns out the inmate who suffered a gunshot wound inside the Cole County Jail shot himself. Brandon McNeese was treated at a Jefferson City hospital but is now back behind bars. He now faces firearms charges in addition to federal meth sales charges. Sheriff John Wheeler is trying to find out how the gun managed to get into the jail.
