Mid-Missourians who want to adopt a pet from Jefferson City’s animal shelter can still do so, by appointment only. The shelter is closed TO THE PUBLIC this week, due to COVID issues and staffing. Jefferson City Police Lieutenant David Williams says that there are currently 68 animals at the shelter, and eight employees are assigned there. He says the decision allows the shelter’s limited staff to focus on their core public safety duties and to care for the shelter’s animal population.
