Prison time in jail shooting case

A man who shot himself with a smuggled – in gun while in the Cole County Jail is headed to prison. Brandon McNeese will spend 14 – years behind bars after pleading guilty to meth distribution charges. He shot himself in the arm while being held in the jail in 2019. McNeese has a lawsuit against Sheriff John Wheeler, claiming he wasn’t given proper care or protection while he was jailed.
