House Speaker Dr. Jon Patterson (R-Lee’s Summit) has appointed State Rep. Kathy Steinhoff (D-Columbia) to the Missouri House Special Committee on Redistricting. The committee plans a Thursday noon hearing in Jefferson City on GOP Governor Mike Kehoe’s proposed congressional redistricting map. The governor calls his map the Missouri First Map.

GOP supporters say it splits fewer counties and municipalities than the current map. But Democrats like St. Louis State Rep. LaKeySha Bosley (D-St. Louis) say mid-term redistricting would disenfranchise black voters across Missouri.

State Rep. Richard West (R-Wentzville) chairs the the new committee.
